Scott Brown To Be Sworn In Today 

Scott Brown will officially become Massachusetts' junior senator Thursday. 

Gov. Deval Patrick will officially certify the results of the Jan. 19 special election this morning allowing Brown to head to Washington and be sworn-in by the end of the day. 

"The Governor will convene the Governor's Council at 9:30 a.m. (Thursday) and certify the results," Patrick's Communications Director Kyle Sullivan said in a statement. 

"This will ensure that Senator-elect Brown's request to receive the final paperwork by 11:00 a.m. (Thursday) is fulfilled." 

The move will give Republicans the 41st Senate vote it needs to sustain a filibuster of Democratic initiatives. 

The ceremony had been planned for Feb. 11, but Brown reversed course amid conservative pressure Wednesday and demanded to be sworn in a week earlier. 

"It's been two-plus weeks, it's time for me to go and do my job," Brown told WBZ's Karen Anderson Wednesday. 

Once Brown arrives in Washington, he will be sworn into the Senate by Vice President Joe Biden. 

Before the ceremony, interim Sen. Paul Kirk will deliver his final speech on the Senate floor thanking the people of Massachusetts for the honor of serving them and discussing the urgent need to move beyond political polarization in the Senate.
